The Lord needed a Farmer so on October 26, 2017 Edward George Kuffer, age 92, was called to tend to the heavenly gardens. George was born near Milton on May 19, 1925, the son of Otto and Pauline (Zesiger) Kuffer. He graduated from Milton Union High School in 1942. George came from generations of farmers and grew up on the family homestead on Newville Road. He raised milk cows, chickens and gardened throughout his life. For over 50 years, George sold his produce to many restaurants, grocery stores, farmers markets and roadside stands in the area.. He continued gardening up until this year and passed his gardening and Swiss traditions onto his children. George retired from the laborer’s union. He worked construction most all of his life working with Prebble Concrete, Bob Kimball and for his good friend Ed Burns. George won many awards from bowling, pitching horseshoes and playing softball. He loved playing euchre. George also loved auctions, traveling and made many trips to Las Vegas. He loved to entertain with his accordion and yodeling.
George is survived by his children, Georgia (Slug) Bass of Benton, WI, Cathy Ruble of Janesville, Cheryl (Eldon) Dierks of Black River Falls, WI, Michael (Candy) Brockway of Black River Falls, WI , Wayne, Gary and Karen Kuffer, grandchildren, Bobbi Brown, Nathan Brown, Phelan (Penny) Voegeli, Phabian (Andrea) Voegeli, Pharon Voegeli, Mikey Brockway, Nicky Ewers, Bucky Ewers, Kuakini Stillman, several great-grandchildren, his special long-time companion, Susan Blasier of Milton and her children Pega Allen and Wade Welda, her grandchildren, Anthony (Lindsey) Welda, Ashley Marquardt, Jamie Welda and her 1 great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Pauline Kuffer, sister, Margaret (Justin) Schultz, brother, Max Kuffer, his two wives, Doris Marie Kuffer and Eunice Kuffer, son-in-law Robin Ruble and great granddaughter, Sophia Voegeli.
Funeral services are at 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 1, 2017 at St. John Lutheran Church. 302 N. Parker Drive, Janesville with Pastor Bond Haldeman officiating. Burial will be in Milton Lawns Memorial Park. Visitations will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, October 31st at Henke-Clarson Funeral Home, 1010 N. Wright Rd., Janesville and at the Church on Wednesday from 10 to 11 a.m.
